Two Medieval English Saints: Cuthbert & Alban

Sister Benedicta Ward SLG examines the lives of two of the earliest saints who first lived the Christian faith in the British isles, Cuthbert of Lindisfarne (634-87 AD) and the third-century Saint Alban, whose life was recorded in detail by the Venerable Bede. Using early biographical and hagiographical writings, she explores the meaning of ‘spirituality’ in the life of these two saints and the way in which they lived the ‘way of the cross’ and the enduring power of their selfless holiness providing an example in the shaping of religious orders and secular faith in medieval Britain.
